It looks that Pakistani Facebook Users are going to face a Ban on Social Networking Website Facebook. Peshawar High Court Yesterday directed authorities to take immediate steps to block “blasphemous material” on social media websites specially on Facebook and sought a detailed response within 20 days.

A division bench of the Peshawar high court headed by Chief Justice Dost Muhammad issued the order in response to a petition filed by a lawyer named Arif Khan.The judges said authorities should take immediate measures to block blasphemous and disputed material on social media websites specially on Facebook.

The Chief Justice observed that anti-Islam material on social media websites incite religious sentiments and “cause chaos in society”. They also issued notices to officials of the interior ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and other departments, seeking detailed replies on the issue within 20 days.

Pakistan Currently do not have a proper filtration system – which can filter the blasphemous content on a specific website. According to Peshawar High Court Order, they have directed PTA and respective Departments to block ‘Facebook Pages’ with Anti-Islamic content. As earlier mentioned, Pakistan do not have such filtration system which can specifically block links of a website. A Similar Item Published in My Blog indicates the same.

It is feared that Peshawar High Court may order to Ban Facebook in Pakistan, If authorities fail to submit a satisfactory reply in Court.

It is worth mentioning here that the Youtube – is already banned in Pakistan since last year over the hosting of clips of an anti-Islam movie.
